I’M ALL IN!
On April 15th 2013, I opened my Instagram account and hesitantly put one toe in the water. Since that day over five years ago, I closed a business, opened another, completed over 600 hours of yoga teacher training, taught another 600 hours of yoga teacher training and twice as many classes, raised my daughter to become a budding tween, supported my husband through a bout of cancer, and retirement, brought a second (and very large) dog into our family and subsequently my bed, met new friends from across the globe, celebrated the lives of those who passed, travelled near and far, experienced love and fear daily, ate lavishly, drank foolishly, cried in joy and sorrow, laughed endlessly and lived life fully. And during all of that and more, just one moment was captured on Instagram.
Five years and one post later, I am tired. That is, I am tired of what I see. As a small business owner, social media is my marketing mainstay. It’s free and it works which is masterful. Thanks to a young, hip and exceptionally talented individual on my team, I do not have to post, tweet, and hashtag daily. I simply get to oversee, check in and occasionally “like” or comment on the world as it’s virtually presented.
From the filter of my iPhone lens, I am often disgraced by what pops-up. I am not here to critique. That’s not my thing. The world needs individuality and creativity and everyone has an audience. I am actually quite thankful for the Instagram window that I have quietly peeked through since 2013 as it’s given me insight into the road I want to explore. And rather than take a big red mental pen of judgment to my overly exposed newsfeed of photos, or blocking it out entirely, I am choosing to go all in!
The last five years has afforded me a blank slate (plus one post that and I am choosing to keep as a bookend to this new chapter). What lies ahead is an opportunity to Begin Fresh. I commit to providing locally rooted and internationally curated nuggets of life that inspire, nourish and feed my soul. I commit to organic growth and photos, comments and hashtags that require no age limit or filter. I make no promises for pretty, perfect or professional and timeliness is admittedly a growing edge. What you will get is raw and real. I won’t use my friends, my family, my business or my life to generate anything more than what is in that moment. I am certain I will make mistakes, have typos and errors along the way (grammar and spelling are also not a strong suit). This is all new and today marks the beginning and everyday thereafter will be an opportunity to Begin Fresh!
Life is about creation so here I go…I am all in!
